“Dance music culture came from a place where everybody was an outsider and not the world’s view of beautiful. I want to show that people like us still fit in dance culture and can still pursue music.”
Based in Washington, D.C.’s burgeoning underground dance music community, zacheser is a hard DJ and producer to nail down. Having attracted attention for his eccentricities both on and off the decks, his infectious positivity, and skills as a curator, zacheser continues to push the boundaries and expectations of his abilities: swearing to always play each set, and produce each track, as if its his last. Inspired by the legacy of house music and disco, he aims to build a rapport between outsiders and the music, often quoting the core beliefs behind labels like DFA Records, Dirtybird, and artists like Prince, Tiga, or LCD Soundsystem as the spark behind his impulses as a creative. Seamlessly blending deep grooves with a penchant for theatrics, colors, and absurd energy all while being unapologetically himself, zacheser’s magnetism as an artist hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Known for his border crossing DJ sets, zacheser has shared bills with the likes of Disclosure, Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin, Crystal Castles, Hotel Garuda, Alle Farben, Worthy, Jacques Renault, Zimmer, Claptone, Throttle, Moullinex, Prince Fox, option4, and Giraffage among other top dance music talents.
2016 was when he started cutting his teeth as a producer, leading to multiple charted remixes on Hype Machine and coverage from outlets such as Earmilk, Acid Stag, and Beautiful Buzzz among others. His remix of Eau Claire’s “Room” was featured on her official remix EP via the indie label Feed Me Disco. 2016 also saw zacheser’s inclusion in One Love Massive’s artist collective: a D.C. based creative factory showcasing many of the movers and shakers in Washington’s underground music spaces.
In 2017, zacheser has an upcoming EP with Baltimore-based artists RaceCarBed, and two additional EPs of original material, with release dates to be determined.
Additionally, zacheser has been an active participant and vocal advocate of the body positive movement since his teenage years – oftentimes using his visibility as a DJ to promote body positivity for young men. Most recently, he’s combined his love for dance music with body positivity through his #FatBeats project via social media: an attempt to bridge the gap and promote body diversity in the dance music community. #FatBeats, as well as zacheser’s other advocacy work, has been featured by MTV, BBC News, and other media outlets.
