10:10-the sea life
“Young Rapids are a psychedelic dream pop group hailing from Washington DC who broke onto the scene in 2012 with the release of their debut album, Day Light Savings. The album earned heaps of local press — from NPR to Washington City Paper to The Vinyl District and Head Underwater — all praising the band for their keen ability to change genres and moods whilst delivering a deluge of honest lyrics and intricate instrumentals.
In early 2014 the band sold out the 1,200 capacity 9:30 Club, and they were recently named one of DC’s “best, most dynamic live bands” by DCist.
On “Melt,” the first single to be released from the band’s forthcoming sophomore LP “Pretty Ugly,” lead singer Dan Gleason evokes the somber reflections of Beach House’s Victoria Legrand and the dejected howls of the Walkmen’s Hamilton Leithauser.
Premiering through SPIN, the single “constantly diverts to new forks in the road” (SPIN) with “a heavy dose of Magical Mystery Tour era Beatles and Soft Bulletin era Flaming Lips” (Deli Magazine). Their second single, “What R U Saying?,” premiered in late January on IndieShuffle.
‘Pretty Ugly’ will be released on 12″ vinyl at this show on March 7th, 2015 through Chimes Records.
Pre-orders are now available through the Chimes Records website.
